Choral societies to join forces

SCARBOROUGH and Bridlington choral societies are to give two joint performances of Bach’s St Matthew Passion.

The first performance will take place in St Mary’s Church on Friday, conducted by Evelyn Halford, and the second on Saturday in Bridlington Priory, conducted by Alan Dance.

Both events will start at 7.30pm.

Publicity officer Leonard Thackery said: “This is a rare opportunity to hear what is probably one of the great works of the choral repertoire.”

The choirs and soloists will be accompanied by a double orchestra of ‘Friends’, Frank James on harpischord and Hugh Penny on organ.

Tickets are available from choir members, Scarborough Tourist Information Centre and on the door.
