There was a steady stream of punters hoping for a Big Night Out as tickets went on sale for the latest event at the Open Air Theatre.

The Big Night Out event will take place on Saturday, August 18, and will feature stars from TV’s The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and The Voice

Tickets were available from the Escape To The Sands office from Saturday morning and Scarborough’s very own Dalek impersonator Martyn Crofts was on hand to entertain the crowds.

He said: “I used to work in the box office selling tickets for shows. I’ve always wanted to do something big in Scarborough.”

Janet Deacon, the area director for Welcome to Yorkshire which is supporting the Open Air Theatre, said about 50 people were waiting before doors opened.

She added: “There have been more people since then. It’s only just been launched but there has been quite a lot of tweeting going on.”

The line-up of stars includes Amelia Lily and The Risk from The X Factor 2011; Loveable Rogues and The Mend from this year’s Britain’s Got Talent Contest; and Jaz Ellington and Max Milner from The Voice UK 2012.

It will also feature one of the most recognisable voiceover artists in the UK – Peter Dickson who is the voice of The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.

David Archer, the strategic director for Scarborough Council, added: “We have been working extremely hard to put on quality acts at the Open Air Theatre this summer which will appeal to a wide audience.”

The 2012 season of shows at the North Bay venue kicked off last month with a concert by Dionne Warwick followed by another by another by John Barrowman.

Olly Murs on will play there on Sunday July 15; Russell Watson on Saturday August 4 and JLS close the season on Saturday August 25.
