As a life-long fan of both talented musicians, I was intrigued to see whether this tribute show would do them justice.

I needn’t have worried; West End performer Kyla Brown as Carole King, and Bill Lennon as James Taylor clearly demonstrated that they were vocally up to the challenge, and took us on a musical journey celebrating the special friendship of this outstanding duo, spanning more than 40 years.

Having grown up with their music ( I practically wore out my LP of Carole King’s iconic best- selling album Tapestry over the years) this show helped me to realise what an impact these musicians made, and are still making, on the music world.

Kyla and Bill took it in turns to narrate the show (written by Dean Elliott )as they treated us to two hours of continuing music of Carole King and James Taylor.

It was a joy to hear such songs as You’ve Got A Friend, How Sweet it Is, Fire and Rain and Sweet Baby James once more, ably supported by a three-piece backing band ; Matt Park, playing pedal steel/guitar, Alan Parker playing bass, and Matt Billups playing drums.

A great night’s entertainment -we’ll definitely love all these iconic songs tomorrow, and for many years to come.

You’ve Got A Friend is at Scarborough Spa on Saturday April 1 at 7.30pm.
