Saxophonist, composer and educator Pete Lyons returns to play for Scarborough Jazz at the Cask on Wednesday May 28.
Pete works with a wide range of regional musicians.
He leads, and writes for, his own quartets and quintets and he can play in a wide range of jazz styles.
Pete spent several years in the 1980s playing with the Hornweb Saxophone Quartet.
Currently, he divides his time between playing as a freelance, teaching music and writing it.
He is one of five people who run the Sheffield Jazz Workshop. This highly successful venture was awarded Jazz Educator of the Year in 2012.
Despite engaging with a variety of more contemporary and experimental music, Pete’s current musical preferences revolve around an interest in the development of improvised lines in more standard settings.
These reflect a long - standing interest in the music and ideas of those great saxophonists Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh.
Pete will be backed by the Mike Gordon Trio.
The music starts at 8.45 pm and admission is a £3.
Scarborough Jazz Festival is at the Spa from Friday September 26 to Sunday September 28.
Headliners include Nigel Kennedy, Anita Wardell and Clark Tracey Quintet.
Dennis Rollins’ Velocity Trio is also in the line-up.
