THE stage is set for Elton John’s first ever performance in Scarborough this Sunday.
Workmen have been erecting the stage this week at the North Bay venue for the opening concert of this year’s summer season.
A platform of 2,000 extra seats has been installed for the – on the theatre’s water feature - expanding its capacity from 6,500 to more than 8,000.
The legendary singer-songwriter will take to the stage at the North Bay venue for one of the biggest musical extravaganzas the town has ever seen.
Sunday’s performance is one of only two solo shows which Sir Elton is performing in the UK as part of his European tour. It is the first time in a career spanning almost five decades that he will have performed in Scarborough.
The 8,500 tickets available for the concert sold out within hours of going on sale.
Fans of Sir Elton can expect more than two hours of hits from his incredible back catalogue, which includes classics such as Bennie and The Jets, Crocodile Rock and Your Song.
Following Sunday’s show the venue will also host events including an ‘80s night featuring stars such as Tony Hadley, folk and brass festivals and a Last Night of the Proms spectacular starring Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
