Vocalist Tessa Smith – who also leads a lindy hop band – makes her Scarborough jazz debut at The Cask on Wednesdya January 29.

Since graduating from the Leeds College of Music, Tessa is busy on several fronts.

As well as leading her own quintet, she works as a duo with guitarist Gav McGrath, and leads a lindy hoppers The Apple Jacks.

She is also a member of The Honey Birds, a 1940s style vocal trio.

Singer Anita Wardell described Tessa as, “ sweet sounding and passionate”.

Tessa released her album Bookmark in 2009 which was judged, “ An accomplished debut with considerable promise” by the jazzman.com

With her for this gig is accomplished saxophonist Stuart MacDonald who is a regular favourite at the club.

He is a member of Tribute to Atlantic Jazz, the Heavy Horns and Urban Latino, and has played with many prominent jazz musicians including Jenni Molloy, Carla Bley and Jean Toussaint.

Tessa and Stuart will be backed by The Mike Gordon Trio, admission is just £5.
