It’s A Fine Life for 40 members of Scarborough Musicals as they rehearse Lionel Bart’s family favourite Oliver! for a week’s run at the YMCA.

It’s the first venture by Scarborough Musicals, formed by the merger of two former societies, which have tackled the show four times since 1980.

Cast members are aged between eight and 70 and are directed by locally-based professional singer, teacher, musical director and arranger Alex Weatherhill, who was in the national tour of Chicago.

The show is under the musical direction of Hugh Penny, who leads a seven-piece band of local musicians, and choreography is by Sheryl Buttner, who is also assistant director.

The title role is shared by Will Stanway and Nathan Mundey, with Mike Seals-Law as Artful Dodger, Chloe Whitehouse as Nancy, Tim Tubbs as Fagin, David Irwin as Bill Sykes, Paul Buttner as Mr Bumble and Helen Dent as Widow Corney. Also in the cast are George Williams and Josephine Pimm.

Songs include Consider Yourself, Food Glorious Food, Who Will Buy? As Long as He Needs Me, Where Is Love, Reviewing the Situation, I’d Do Anything, Boy For Sale and Pick a Pocket or Two.

Oliver is at the YMCA, St Thomas Street,Scarborough, from Tuesday May 28 to Saturday June 1, daily at 7.30pm. with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.
