FANS of the Coastival arts festival recaptured the spirit of the event at a Summer Breeze picnic in the Crescent.

As families tucked into their sandwiches at the gardens of Woodend Creative Industries Centre, they were treated to music provided by DJ Tooley and friends covering genres from southern-fried soul to reggae and jazz.

Various arts activities also featured as part of the event which was organised by the same group who staged the second Coastival arts festival in February this year, with music and entertainment taking place on the seafront.

Coastival attracted double its attendance in comparison to its debut year, and organiser Wendy Clews said the picnic also had a good turnout.

She said: “The picnic was a great success. We had some fantastic music played by local DJs, graffiti artists and even a poetry picnic blanket.

“Lots of families came down and the kids enjoyed dancing and playing in the gardens of Woodend.

“The sun even started shining as the afternoon went on.”
