Saxophonist Matt at the Cask

Powerful and inventive saxophonist Matt Smith plays The Cask on Wednesday November 21.

Matt has carved an interesting career since graduating from the Leeds College of Music in 2000.

He plays in many musical genres – soul, blues, big band and pop, although his first love is for jazz.

He has played and recorded with a wide range of musicians and bands including the Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra, Boogie Night Fever, the Memphis Belle Orchestra, Jamie Taylor, Thom Whitworth and Martin Jones.

Matt is a founder member of Sunflower Music, delivering effective music therapy workshops. As a composer and arranger he signed to Lifesound Records in 2006. Currently he teaches the saxophone at Hull University’s East Riding College.

He has played the Lincoln Jazz Weekend and he regularly appears at the Hull Jazz Festival where the Hull Daily Mail claimed that, “Matt’s playing was a highlight ..... he didn’t put a foot wrong all night”.

He has recorded sessions for BBC Television and radio, Channel 4 and Sky TV.
