Be first to hear readings of new plays

The Stephen Joseph Theatre's popular Plays and Pinot sessions return this spring with a new image and title: First Draft.

First Draft will take place in the theatre’s welcoming bar area on the evenings of Mondays March 27 and April 3, and will allow the public to be among the first to hear rehearsed readings by local actors of newly developed plays from the members of the theatre’s script-writing class, Write Stuff, which is led by professional playwright and actor, Jane Thornton.

The plays to be performed are:

Monday March 27: Shangalang by Sue Wilding; Way Back by Jeanette Hambidge; The Turing Test by Mark Lamb.

Monday April 3: SABS by Gilly Collinson; To Hull in a Tent by Elaine Brookes; Cupcakes for One by Liz Taylor.

Both evenings will also feature a taster of songs from a new musical by Write Stuff member Chris Metcalfe.

The shows will be read by local actors including Alfie Woodhead, Alison Wrench, Andrew Clay, Charlotte Oliver, Emily Swift, Georgia Mason, Isy Watson, Joe Beeley, Kate Woodward Hay, Lee Atkinson, Lee Ure, Donna Broadhead, Mat Watkinson, Richard Claxton and Sarah Pearman.

First Draft will take place from 8pm on both dates. Tickets cost £6 (to include refreshments) and can be booked via the box office on 01723 370541 .
