“The event showcases the different departments of the school and gives performers their first platform as independent groups,” said owner Julie Hatton.

Skellig is a tale of hope and strength. Can’t See the Wood for the Trees is a new musical, written and performed by the junior musical theatre class.

“It is filled with colourful characters, mystery, comedy, catchy songs and dances,” said Julie.

“The class have been working on script and lyric writing and developing plot lines and characters alongside their acting, singing and dance training. They have created all the characters and written the storylines, dialogue and song lyrics themselves.

“The story begins with orphan Sammy who runs away into the forest to escape the bullies who torment him,” she said.

The double bill is at the YMCA Theatre, St Thomas Street, Scarborough on Mon day June 3 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £6.50 and are available from the YMCA box office on Scarborough (01723) 506750.
