A SCARBOROUGH school is set to sparkle with Broadway acclaim after landing a huge exclusive production.
Scalby School has secured the rights for the Miss Saigon musical.
The show, which is set for a four-day run in the town, will take place next year.
The deal is another massive boost for the school, which has previously performed massive productions such as Les Miserables, Our House, Rent, The Wedding Singer and We Will Rock You.
Teacher Chris Taylor said he was always striving to bring high-profile shows to the school – which Miss Saigon epitomised.
He said: “The nicest thing is that we will be the first people to bring Miss Saigon to Scarborough.
“It is one of the biggest musicals and, as a school we are extremely excited about it.
“As a show, it promises to be quite spectacular.
“This will be the biggest show that we will have ever produced and we have devoted nine months to prepare for it.”
Mr Taylor said negotiations were still taking place on the length of the show in Scarborough and a venue to host the performance.
However, he said he was looking forward to holding auditions for the production, which would take students’ performance abilities to new levels.
He added: “We like to do something different and we have set ourselves a real challenge with Miss Saigon.
“However, we are constantly looking to top what we have done in the past.
“And if that is the case, taking on something which will stretch students is what we have to do.
“We will also be looking at a new cast as the core of last year’s show will leave this year.
“However, that makes the show even more exciting as it gives the new pupils a real chance to display their talents.”
