Dance star Matt Flint has been putting volunteers through their paces for a one-off cabaret event at Scarborough Spa next month.

The winner of BBC’s contest So You Think You Can Dance led a workshop for the lads and dads called the Broadway Boys– including mayor Andrew Backhouse – who said they would take part.

One Night Only has been organised by Scarborough-based Twilight Productions youth team and is in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Dance Aid UK.

“I’m delighted to be involved with the whole event as it’s a chance for me to use my skills to help organisations I feel strongly about, plus I love coming home to Scarborough, so this challenge enables me to do both,” said Matt.

“I enjoy putting something back into the community which has supported me throughout my career.”

He has choreographed a dance piece for the men – it includes music from We Will Rock You, Guys and Dolls and other West End musicals.

Matt, who is working on various projects, including a staging of the musical Music Man, will also be performing on the night.

After the first session at the YMCA with Matt, David Nicholson, who formed Twilight Productions with his wife Kerry and Jodi Hatton, said: “There was lots of laughter as we showed the mayor our limited dance moves.”

Cllr Backhouse said he was looking forward to the event and supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

He will also be on auctioneer duties “if I am still standing after the dance routine”.

The entertainment starts with a Broadway-themed cabaret with its finale featuringThe Broadway Boys.

An auction of promises follows. Prizes up for bidding range from family passes for various attractions to signed celebrity merchandise.

Local band Infinity will be playing and there will be a
disco.

The evening is at the Spa on Saturday February 22 at 7.30pm. Guests should wear their best red carpet outfits.

Tickets are £15 each, or
tables are available to buy/sponsor.

They are available from Twilight Productions which are based at YMCA Leisure Centre, St Thomas Street, Scarborough, Stage Struck dance shop – opposite Macdonald’s in Huntriss Row – and York Beauty House in Roscoe Street.
