A spectacular adaptation of J M Barrie’s famous story of the boy who never grew up hits theatres throughout the country next spring, gliding into Scarborough and glistening across the Spa’s Grand Hall from April 8 to 12.
Russian Ice Stars perform Peter Pan on Ice the seafront venue.
Unique touches, such as penny farthings being ridden across the ice as the curtain opens on the skyline of a London park, complete with chimney stacks and chimney sweeps, paves the way for a fast moving production which guarantees jumps and spins.
Main characters such as Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell and Captain Hook, will spring to life against a backdrop of fire, Indian drumming, and incredible scenery changes from Wendy’s bedroom through to Hook’s secret hideout.
Producer Vee Deplidge, pioneered the concept of Theatre on Ice by producing full length productions. “While watching an ice show in 1991 I was struck with the thought that marrying danger and speed with the beauty of ballet could be totally spectacular,” said Vee.
“I had always loved theatre. Transferring it to the ice was long overdue and would allow a whole new range of movement while giving a much broader appeal to the traditional interpretation of popular stories. What makes Peter Pan so special is that the ideas behind it are magnificent. It has always been a big favourite of mine - I read it often as a child – and always loved being able to escape to wonderland whenever I opened the pages. It’s truly satisfying to be able to transport others into this fantasy world with our latest production.”
Helen Broadbent, general manager of the Spa,said, “We are delighted to be announcing the dancing spectacular of Peter Pan on Ice coming to The Spa and welcoming back some of the amazing international ice stars. The Grand Hall we be transformed into a glistening fairy-tale for the easter holidays as we bring this classic story to life for all the family to enjoy.”
