Theatre project aimed at people
of the third age

The Stephen Joseph Theatre is hosting a pilot project on Thursday January 3 aimed at establishing a regular set of participatory activities for people of the third age.

Beyond the Tea Dance offers people over the age of 65 the opportunity to meet new friends, learn new skills and engage in activities in a safe and supportive environment.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in workshops on movement, poetry, play-reading and arts and crafts, based on the current production The Importance of Being Earnest.

In collaboration with recognised agencies, the first meeting has been filled by a mix of regular and non-attendees to gauge their response to putting on regular activities in the future and to establish a focus group to gather views.

Denise Gilfoyle, dead of OutReach said: “The theatre wishes to inspire people to have a go at activities that they might never have had a chance to try before.”
