A cast of 25 young performers are preparing to thoroughly entertain when they head back to the 1920s in a high-spirited musical romp.

The musical Thoroughly Modern Millie is being staged by the Senior Musical Theatre group from the Hatton School of Performing Arts.

Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.

Millie, a small-town girl from Kansas is determined to find a job and a rich husband in New York. However her plans go awry as she attempts to attract the attention of her boss but finds her heart with paperclip salesman Jimmy Smith.

The show has frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess.

Musical director, Janna Leith, said: “You will experience a thoroughly modern adventure in the big city alongside Millie with all the comical twists and turns that she has to face. This Jr version of Thoroughly Modern Millie has been adapted for a young cast and is shorter than the original musical but it still contains favourite Broadway musical numbers including Forget About The Boy, Gimme Gimme, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. is on at the YMCA Theatre on Saturday September 22 at 7.30pm and Sunday September 23 at 2pm
