Sax player Rob returns to club

Former Royal Marines bandsman and Saxophonist Rob McGrath returns to Scarborough Jazz at The Cask on Wednesday January 21.

Rob studied clarinet and saxophone as a schoolboy in Hull. He was a member of the Hull Youth Orchestra and the Hull Youth Jazz Orchestra, under the guidance of Geoff Laycock.

On leaving school, Rob joined the Royal Marines Band Service, which involved three years training at the R M School of Music.

He spent eight years as a bandsman then left to study jazz at Middlesex University with tutors that included Pete Churchill and Nikki Iles.

Rob has played with many ensembles including the Memphis Belle, and the Moonlight Serenade Orchestras.

As well as his frequent jazz gigs, Rob is also a woodwind teacher for the North Lincolnshire Music Service.

Rob will be backed by The Mike Gordon Trio.

The music starts at 8.45pm and admission is just £4.

This year’s Scarborough Jazz Festival will be based at the Spa Complex.

It runs from Friday September 25 to Sunday September 27.
