Academy apprentices shine at competition

High achieving students and apprentices at The Academy recently competed in the regional hairdressing, make up and beauty competitions.

The Academy in Scarborough and Norton took students to compete at the regional college heats in Gateshead.

Four students placed at the regionals will go through to the National Finals in Blackpool among these categories were 1st Year Blow dry, Mens cut and blow dry, Ladies Evening Style and Body painting.

The apprentices included Cassie West and Heema Shah of Poppys in Scarborough, Paul Coyle of Shugs Barbers Kirkbymoorside, Nadine Woodhead and Nell Pinkney of Goodys Malton.

Competing make up artistry students were Olivia Walker and Casey Jayne Canvass, Beauty Therapy students Amy Horsewood from York and Katrina Coia from Whitby and hairdressing student Tracey Ireland from Malton.

As a specialist hairdressing and beauty training provider The Academy works in partnership with local schools, Whitby 6th Form, Scarborough 6th Form College, the ESFA and YH Training alongside many salons and employers in Scarborough and Ryedale.

Lindsay Burr MBE, academy director, said: “Each year our students work so hard to achieve this high standard.
