There have been concerns about a lack of facilities in the town centre since non-essential shops reopened on June 15.

A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: "We are pleased to announce that the toilet facilities at the centre will re-open from July 4.

"The facilities are now safe to use following the Government’s easing of social distancing restrictions from two metres to one metre plus.

"The safety of shoppers, staff, and retailers remains our priority, and we will continue to follow the latest Government guidelines to keep people safe and to support the national efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19.

"Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Take care and we look forward to seeing you again soon."

The Scarborough News reported earlier this week how Scarborough Borough Council had temporarily opened toilets in the Town Hall following calls for facilities to be provided for shoppers and visitors to the town centre. Toilets in the Market Hall have also been opened.

Before these toilets were open, one woman contacted us to say she had to resort to relieving herself in a back street because she could not find any toilets that were open.
