Charlwood Hearing Care in Castle Road was established in 2014 after its owner and senior audiologist Neil Charlwood took over his father Derek’s business Ebor Hearing Healthcare after he retired.

Having been an independent hearing centre for nearly 20 years, the premises on Castle Road was in need of some TLC.

“Whilst the centre has served our customers well for many years, the time had come to create the hearing care experience they deserve,” explains Neil.

The centre is the only dedicated hearing centre on the Yorkshire Coast and specialises in hearing aids and ear wax removal

Not only has the premises been completely refurbished from front to back, there have also been upgrades to all the audiology equipment and a new comfortable soundproof booth for carrying out hearing tests.

“We wanted to adopt a state-of-the-art approach to the refurbishment in order to give our wonderful customers the best hearing care experience possible,” continued Neil.

The centre is the only dedicated hearing centre on the Yorkshire Coast and specialises in hearing aids and ear wax removal. With the vast majority of GP surgeries no longer offering irrigation, or ear syringing as it was known, patients are having to find centres such as Charlwood Hearing Care to have their wax cleared.

The centre employs Jayne Dixon, a clinical ear care nurse, to work alongside Neil in offering three different methods of wax removal: microsuction, irrigation and dry removal.

With nearly ten years of wax removal experience between them, Neil and Jayne use the latest equipment to ensure that wax is completely cleared quickly and safely. Being able to use both suction and irrigation, sometimes in combination, means they can clear more wax at the first attempt, giving customers instant relief.

As well as being a wax removal specialist, Neil has nearly 20 years’ experience in fitting hearing aids. His focus has always been to fit the very latest in hearing technology as an independent provider of the world’s leading manufacturers, match each client with the best and most suitable devices for their individual hearing loss, lifestyle and budget, and deliver the highest level of aftercare service possible.

“The centre we’ve been creating over the last four weeks will help us deliver on these objectives,” said Neil. “We only have a small team of staff at Charlwood Hearing Care but we’re all passionate about helping to improve people’s hearing. When customers walk out of our doors with their wax blockages clear or their new hearing aids in their ears, their relief and joy at being able to hear better brings us all an incredible amount of satisfaction. We’re very lucky to be doing what we do.”
