The Scarborough based bakery is the largest family owned bakery chain in the UK and the store at Seamer Road retail park will be the 171st shop to open in the country and the 10th in Scarborough.

Cooplands has opened seven new stores since March 2020 and plans to roll-out additional stores in locations including South Yorkshire, as well as expanding further in areas where it already has stores. Earlier this month a planning application was approved by Bradford Council to open a branch in Ilkley. This will be their first to open in the Bradford district.

The proposed opening date of the Seamer Road branch is March 9 and the store will be looking to recruit 12 new members of staff.

Last year Cooplands secured a £7.7m investment from major captital growth investor BFG.

Cooplands CEO Belinda Youngs said: “We’re ambitious about continuing to grow our business and this investment allows us to build on the strong progress we’ve already made. “In 2020 we’ve continued to open stores, create jobs and develop new products."
