Klosters, in York Place, has been a staple on the town’s night out scene for 15 years and the owners are inviting all those who have enjoyed a night their to come along to say goodbye.

Formerly known as the Louis Wine Bar, it became Klosters in 2002 when the owners purchased the bar and extended it into the adjoining building.

The new owner has not yet been revealed but the bar will re-open following a complete re-fit.

Current owners Oliver Hillier and Graeme Young said in a statement: “It seemed the right time to finally move on.

“Klosters has been a small part of so many peoples lives for the last 15 years but all good things come to an end.

“Most people will rightly associate Klosters with Mo Stevenson who was the life and soul of Klosters and since his sudden death in 2012 we have kept the bar going out of respect for his memory.

“However, it doesn’t compliment our core businesses and with a major re-fit due it seemed the sensible time to pass the baton onto an excellent local bar operator, one who was friends with Mo.

“It is hard to quantify how many people’s first memories of a night out will be in Klosters, how many couples first met there and how many tall stories Mo told from behind the bar.

“What we can say is that it has been a privilege to be a small part of a night time institution in this wonderful town of ours and we’d like to thank all the staff and customers for fifteen memorable years.

“Klosters may be ending but the spirit of Mo will live on forever.

“We would welcome everyone to join us for one final night this Saturday.”

Klosters was well known for its ‘Toss the Boss’ promotion, the idea for which was stumbled upon in an Après Ski bar during a skiing trip to Chamonix in 2001 by the owners and Mo.

It was also the longest running town centre bar in Scarborough under the same ownership.
