Scarborough radio station rapped for f-bomb slip

Ofcom ruled after a presenter was heard to remark "**** it" live on air on Northway's Coast and County Radio at 11.16am on November 10 last year.

The station said it happened when people talking outside the studio were picked up on the microphone.

No apology was broadcast after the incident.

In its response to Ofcom Coast and County said: "All presenters and external contributors are advised of compliance responsibilities before going on air, and directed to Ofcom guidance."

The Ofcom report added: "[Coast and County] considered the language on this occasion, whilst inexcusable, was due to an unintentional and unfortunate lapse of concentration by an experienced presenter, with no intent to offend.

"The Licensee advised that it had since informed all presenters of the severity of this incident, and reminded them of studio etiquette.

"It said all presenters have also been given a copy of Ofcom’s guidance on offensive language on radio with a clear warning that this type of incident will not be tolerated."

However, Ofcom ruled that the language would not have been expected by the audience and found it had breached broadcast standards.

There was no further punishment.
