Students and their families can see Scarborough UTC in action when the technical college welcomes visitors for an open evening on Thursday 9th December. Courses in engineering, health and cyber security are among the hands-on skills it teaches to develop employability skills for future jobs and apprenticeships.

Its offering broadens the choice already provided by Scalby School, Lady Lumley’s School, Newby and Scalby Primary School plus Friarage Community Primary School, which are all part of Coast and Vale Learning Trust.

“I am delighted that Scarborough UTC is joining the Coast and Vale Learning Trust. Working collaboratively with the trust will enable the high-quality technical courses at the UTC to be an integral part of the careers choices promoted by the Coast and Vale schools in year 8 and year 11 and will enable opportunities for high quality professional development for staff,” said Scarborough UTC Principal Lee Kilgour.

“Coast and Vale Learning Trust is deeply impressed by the quality of teaching and learning seen during our visits. The relationships between the staff and students is first-class. We witnessed staff going beyond the normal duties in supporting students in out of school activities, the work with the F1 challenge was particularly impressive. The students were motivated, engaged and passionate about their learning. Having Scarborough UTC in the Coast and Vale Learning Trust family will expose many more students to cutting edge technical and vocational education,” said Coast and Vale Learning Trust CEO Brian Crosby.

The addition of Scarborough UTC means that all students in Coast and Vale schools now have access to an unrivalled educational facility as an extension of the trust’s curriculum offer.

The collaborative nature of its multi-academy trust means that its schools share the best educational practice. The trust is looking forward to supporting Scarborough UTC to build on the excellent improvement work started by its Principal.

The trust’s vision is that staff and learners thrive in each of its schools and its Improvement Team ensures that all school staff benefit from the best training and development available nationally, in order to deliver high quality outcomes for all students.

Beyond the Coast and Vale schools, families up and down the Yorkshire Coast and across the Ryedale area recognise that Scarborough UTC represents a unique curriculum offer. Its students were recently crowned as national champions at the UK Formula 1 in Schools competition, in which they created a miniature racing car powered by compressed air to win against 15 other schools from around the country.

Even at this early point during the academic year, Scarborough UTC has already received a significant number of applications for students wishing to join in September 2022.

Michael McCluskie, Director of Learning at Coast and Vale Learning Trust, said: “All of our colleagues across Scalby School, Newby and Scalby Primary School, Friarage Community Primary School and Lady Lumley’s School are excited by this development for Coast and Vale Learning Trust.”

Scarborough UTC will join the trust from January 1st 2022.
