The Hall care home was sent some specially designed Armistice Day-themed art from the children at Thonton Dale Primary School.

The residents would normally be able to mark the occasion in-house with activities such as visits from local school children. However this year, plans had to change due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The school wanted to help the home to make Remembrance Day special for the older generation and created artwork around the theme of poppies.

Diane Hagan, home manager, said: “Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day are very important to our residents and we wanted to make sure they were marked appropriately, despite the lockdown regulations.

“We’d like to thank Thornton Dale Primary School for sending over such fantastic artwork. The residents love looking at it and think the children are very talented.”

David Broadhurst, 94, a resident at The Hall who served as a Sapper in Egypt during World War II, added: “The pictures are absolutely lovely.”

Nikkie Beniams, executive headteacher at Thornton Dale Primary School, said: “As a school we are always keen to provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop links with our local community.

“It is vital now more than ever for local organisations to join together and support each other.

“We have had some wonderful opportunities to work with The Hall in the past and so were delighted to have been asked to create Remembrance Day art work for the residents.”
