Drop-in language sessions to start at Scarborough library

People who do not have English as their first language are being invited to join drop-in sessions at Scarborough library to improve language skills, build confidence and socialise.

The sessions, beginning on Saturday, January 11 from 1pm to 2.30pm, are free and open to anybody who wishes to gain new skills in conversational English.

Refreshments will be provided during the sessions and children are welcome.

County Councillor Greg White, executive member for libraries, said: “We hope this library venture will go a long way in ensuring people get the support they need to improve their English language skills and feel part of their community.

“By mirroring frequent situations such as visiting a shop to booking a doctor’s appointment, we hope to support people to improve English language skills which are integral to everyday life.”
