Parents of 80 students in Year 10 at Bridlington School were alerted yesterday and asked to keep their children at home.

All of Year 8, Year 12 and Year 13 are already self-isolating, along with 50 students in Year 9, after other students received positive test results.

All of Year 7 and Year 11 are still expected in school, as well as 140 students in Year 9 and 104 in Year 10.

The school posted on social media yesterday: "We have received confirmation that a member of Year 10 has tested positive for Covid-19.

"Eighty students in Year 10 have been identified as direct contacts and are required to self-isolate.

"A student is a direct contact if they have been in the same class or in the same social group at break or lunchtime on Thursday and Friday, 48 hours before the onset of symptoms on Saturday.

"The safety of students and staff is of highest importance. The whole school is deep cleaned every night.

"Parents/carers of the 80 Year 10 students have been informed.
