Several pupils at Filey Junior School, on West Road, were contacted after a member of the Year 6 staff team had a positive test for the disease.

The school said a small number of children were away from school and it was following Government guidance.

Children in Year 4 of the same school were asked not to come in for two weeks last month after a member of staff tested positive for the disease.

North Yorkshire County Council said the school, in consultation with the authority and Public Health England, took action by asking any potential close contacts of the case to isolate for 14 days.

Meanwhile, Choice News, on Union Street in Filey, has announced it is temporarily closing early each day after two staff members were unable to return to work following their holiday because they tested positive for coronavirus.

The shop posted on its social media: "We took the immediate decision to close early each day in an effort to preserve the energy levels of our staff.

"Let's hope we are soon firing on all cylinders in the near future and we look forward to seeing you when it is safe for us to be there."
