Malton School headteacher up for national accolade

Rob Williams is in the running to win the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Award for Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School.

Selected from thousands of nominations, Mr Williams is one of 87 extraordinary teachers, lecturers and school staff who have been entered for the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards.

He was nominated for the Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School category for his ongoing work in transforming Malton School.

Through a ‘front foot’ approach and inspirational leadership, he has created a learning environment which caters for students’ individual needs through a broad balanced curriculum and a programme of personal development activities in which they can thrive.

He is in the running to be one of the Silver Award winners.

These will then compete to win one of just 14 Gold Awards which will be announced at the televised UK ceremony later in the year, broadcast on the BBC as ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes’.

Mr Williams said: “It is humbling to think that members of the community I have served for 14 years felt motivated to put me forward for this award.

“I am grateful to them and to the Pearson Teaching Awards programme for having established a mechanism to recognise and appreciate the fabulous and dedicated professionalism of colleagues working in education across the country.

“In my case, I hope this nomination reflects the extraordinary commitment that the whole team at Malton have put in to devising and delivering our personal development programme through a timetabled 26th hour each week dedicated to an extensive range of skills-based and character education classes that are advantaging the young people here.”
