Latest Scarborough borough coronavirus infection rate as 5,000 total cases confirmed

Scarborough has recorded more than 5,000 confirmed coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic last year.

The borough passed the milestone last night after 10 new cases pushed the overall total to 5,004.

Scarborough recorded its 4,000th case on December 30. For comparison it took the borough almost seven months to record its first 1,000 cases when the pandemic began in March.

Government figures also show that 181 people have now died in the borough within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test since March last year. On November 1 the figure was 72.

The borough’s seven day infection rate per 100,000 people in Scarborough remains at 109, the same as yesterday.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.
