Number of Scarborough Hospital patients with Covid now more than 30 after steep increase

The sharp rise was revealed as the country enters a second lockdown that will run until at least December 2.

The borough of Scarborough has recorded more than 200 cases in the last week, which has had a knock-on effect on the local hospital.

Speaking at yesterday’s meeting of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum, Amanda Bloor, accountable officer for North Yorkshire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, said that while admission rates in parts of the county had stabilised other areas had seen large rises.

She said: “There is a different picture across the county.

"In Harrogate, the number of Covid patients in hospital is fairly static, with 15 as of [Tuesday] which is a decrease of one from the previous week.

“On the York Hospital site, there are currently 41 patients which is an increase of 11 from last week.

“On the Scarborough site, however, we have got 32 patients which is an increase of 31 from last week.

“And in South Tees, there are 101 patients – an increase of 27, bearing in mind South Tees does take a significant amount of patients from outside of North Yorkshire.”

Since the start of the pandemic, figures from NHS England show that the total number of deaths related to Covid-19 in York and Scarborough hospitals is 234.
