Latest figures show there have been 212 deaths of people who had tested positive for the disease across York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Of those, 80 were at Scarborough Hospital.

Outside of the Trust, data from the Office for National Statistics released on Tuesday show there was one death of someone who had tested positive for coronavirus in a Scarborough hospice during the week ending June 5.

There were none at home or in care homes in this area during that time.

Independent Care Group Chairman and Scarborough care homes owner Mike Padgham has welcomed a national fall in coronavirus-related deaths in care homes but has called on the Government to start planning for the future of social care.

“We cannot be complacent and let coronavirus take hold again after we have all worked so extremely hard to get Covid-19 under control,” he said.

“At the same time, the moment is fast approaching where we have to start planning for reform of social care once coronavirus is behind us.”

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has reached a positive milestone, announcing more than 500 of its patients who had been diagnosed with coronavirus have been discharged to continue their recovery at home.

A spokesperson for the trust said: “It takes an amazing team - thank you to all of our dedicated, resilient and wonderful colleagues who have made this happen.”
