Scarborough has its highest number of positive Covid cases in one day since April, as infection rate rises

A further 31 coronavirus cases have been added to Scarborough’s total in the last 24 hours, the borough’s biggest rise since the peak of the pandemic in April.

Yesterday’s figure is second only to April 26 when 32 cases were recorded in Scarborough and came as the UK saw its highest ever number of cases in one day.

Some 26,688 tested positive for the coronavirus, the most ever in one 24-hour span in the UK, with 191 additional deaths related to Covid-19 recorded.

In Scarborough, the borough’s overall total now stands at 1,094.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people, which had been the lowest in the county at 91, has now risen to 97, the same as Richmondshire.
