A spokesperson told The Scarborough News today that two pupils had tested positive for the disease.

The spokesperson said: "With pupils and staff enjoying their half term break, precautionary measures have been taken to protect pupils who have remained in the boarding houses and staff working through the holidays.

"All other pupils and families have been contacted and a number of pupils have been informed to self-isolate.

"Due to identified timings, the pupils and staff are expected to return to school after the half-term break."

Guy Emmett, Headmaster at Scarborough College, said: ‘We have contacted all parents and guardians to explain the situation.

"I am grateful for their understanding and their support, as I am sure many of them had different plans for the holidays.

"The safety of all pupils, staff and their families are of paramount importance and I was pleased to hear that Public Health England confirmed our precautionary measures were appropriate and timely.

"We will keep working with Public Health England to ensure their high standards of Covid-19 measures are maintained."

Mr Emmett has urged the families and staff to follow Government guidance regarding self-isolation and stay at home.
