Sean Doughty and Wally Bacon, who drive Scarborough Hospital's mobile chemotherapy unit, have been awarded York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's Star Award after proving key in keeping cancer treatment ongoing during the coronavirus crisis.

The hospital's chemotherapy unit had to be made mobile so that high risk patients could continue receiving treatment as safely as possible during the pandemic.

Sean and Wally, described as "true gentlemen" have been praised by the Trust for their huge role in keeping cancer treatments going, helping with the every day running of the unit and taking on many extra tasks above and beyond their role.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: "From pharmacy runs to collecting lunches for patients and making tea and coffee, they did any job asked of them.

"Sean and Wally were a constant support to staff, many of whom had little or no experience of working on the unit.

"These ‘friendly, approachable and all round nice guys’ made sure that the unit was set up each day ready for staff and patients over the very difficult past few months."
