The local branch of Andy’s Man Club may have had a pandemic to contend with but it has still been providing a safe space for the borough’s men to share their feelings and thoughts.

The first meeting in February 2020 attracted 37 men, and that had grown to 43 by the time lockdown hit.

Coronavirus restrictions meant the group’s sessions had to go online for some time but a recognition of the importance of support groups like theirs has meant they have been able to resume their meetings at Scarborough Library.

Facilitator Shaun Tymon, 57, said the number of people they see demonstrates a need for support in the area.

“It seems to work,” he said. “There are a lot of friendships built between members because they’re all in the same boat.”
