A BOX of chocolates and bottle of wine might be considered the norm, but a local woman is adopting a more daredevil approach as a parting gift to her current employer.

Ashleigh Smith has worked at Shopmobility in Somerset Terrace for nearly five years and to say her thank you and goodbyes, she’s decided to jump from a plane at 10,000 feet.

The 22 year-old has also roped in boyfriend Josh Marshall to take part in the charity skydive this summer before they embark on a two-year break to tour the world.

Miss Smith said she was nervous but excited about the jump which will fund money to go towards good causes.

She said: “I work at Shopmobility, I’ve worked there for there years whilst I was at uni. I finished uni last July and have been working there since, I’m leaving in September to go travelling, so it’s really a goodbye gift before I leave.

“One of the main reasons is that Shopmobility just started its free daily hire service on scooters. We used to charge for the day but now we offer a free service so the money from this will support that and help keep the service running.”

The couple have raised £700 so far and have received support from customers at the shop.

Miss Smith added: “They think it’s great. One woman, Jan Dixey, said that Shopmobility was her lifeline and she’d be lost without it. Another man, Alan Watson, he uses scooters every week, he’s looking forward to seeing my reaction.”
