At the heart of Malton lies an unassuming restaurant offering a fantastic dining experience.
I rely heavily on Trip Advisor these days with the trusty website still never letting me down. The New Malton has rave reviews from customers on the app and, after dining at the Market Place restaurant, I concur with them.
I was excited ahead of my visit with a new daily menu presented on the website with a wide range of choice.
We had booked our table for two on the day of our midweek evening visit and were welcomed warmly by a couple of waitresses.
Despite being able to glance at the menu ahead of my visit, I was mulling over the options for a considerable amount of time.
Being a fan of craft beer, it was refreshing to see a range of local beers available on draught which I had to taste.
For starters I went for the red lentil, carrot and sesame fritters with chilli jam (£5.50) with my partner choosing the Yorkshire pudding with onion gravy (£4.50).
The fritters were crisp and were complemented by the jam which was sweet but packed a punch while the Yorkshire pudding was a simple classic with a crispy outing with a fluffy middle in a delicious gravy.
It wasn’t too long before our main courses were brought to the table. On our plates it did not look like much, but it was the perfect quantity of food (especially if you’re wanting the three courses).
My apricot chicken was beautifully tender and wrapped in pancetta served with celeriac mash, vegetables and a thyme gravy (£13.25). The red cabbage was delightful alongside the chicken and was overall a tasty dish.
My partner’s red wine braised boneless lamb Henry with dauphinoise potato and rosemary and redcurrant gravy (£14.95) was met with a flood of compliments. The lamb melted in your mouth and the array of flavours were delicious.
The New Malton offers a relaxing atmosphere which makes you feel at home. During our stay we realised that it was a good idea to book with some walk-ins being told they would have to wait some time for a table.
I don’t think this would put me off with the friendly and attentive staff ensuring everyone enjoys their stay at The New Malton.
We couldn’t resist the temptation of the dessert menu, and I’m glad that was the case.
My partner’s sticky toffee pudding was to die for. It was served with cinder toffee ice cream and toffee sauce (£5.25). We both tasted it and immediately said “wow”. It is the best sticky toffee pudding I have had in a long time.
My passion fruit and white chocolate posset (£5.20) was also delectable. It was a perfect dessert for myself with two of my favourite flavours mixed into one. Both desserts rounded off a great meal which certainly left us full to the brim.
The range of fantastic choices for each course certainly makes you ponder your selection. I will be returning to the New Malton for more of this appetising menu where there will be new dishes and different craft ales for me to sample.
I would recommend The New Malton for an overall friendly atmosphere and fantastic range of food.
