Participants will receive a doorstep delivery of books from their preferred genre, delivered by the volunteer team who will then return and collect the read books and drop off another parcel.

Returned books will be wiped down and isolated before being put back into circulation to ensure everyone’s safety.

Julie Macey-Hewitt, the lead co-coordinator for the Covid hub said: “We know a lot of people are struggling with missing their usual activities during lock-down and libraries are a lifeline for so many people who don’t have internet access and ebook readers at home.

“Whilst we can’t replace the amazing service libraries usually provide, we can at least make sure people have got a steady supply of reading material to keep themselves entertained.

“We’ve had a brilliant response from people donating books to the cause and a volunteer team ready to get going with deliveries for as long as they are needed.”

The scheme is open to anyone in the Scarborough and Filey area.
