Revival North Yorkshire launch fundraising page to help protect the vulnerable

The company was among the first to receive a small grant from the Two Ridings Community Foundation to help keep people safe, fed, well and connected during the coronavirus lockdown.

Revival North Yorkshire director Debbie Swales said the money will go towards petrol, telephone calls, insurance and other costs involved in assisting the 114 vulnerable people they currently support. However, with so many people to help it’s going fast.

Debbie said the online fundraising campaign has been launched as the company is aware there are many more who may need its services: “We know there are still quite a number of 70+ people shopping etc for themselves.

“Maybe they don’t know that help is available to them. We’re asking people if they know a vulnerable person who would benefit from any or all of what we do to please get in touch, particularly if that person has no family living locally.

“Help save lives, protect our NHS and let these vulnerable people know we can help them.”

The organisation, which predominantly works with the people of the Esk Valley, is well known in the area for its Memory Lane lunches and singing sessions which have been provided by Ruth and Neil Hannah of Musical Memories for over three years.

Revival North Yorkshire have also been providing a range of other activities in the Danby and Sleights area for almost five years.

When lockdown hit, the company changed the way it works to meet the current needs of vulnerable people. With the support of a team of over 20 volunteers, the community interest company provides a range of services including:

- Regular phone calls to chat, be positive and to attempt to waylay fears.

- Identify issues over food, prescriptions and any other potential problems

- Assisting setting up shopping deliveries and (if essential) delivering shopping if no other alternatives are found.

- Facilitating prescription deliveries

- Providing information and linking people with useful contacts.

- Directing people to register extremely vulnerable people on the government website.

- Encouraging nice things like exercises with The Green Goddess and the National Theatre performances on TV !
