A sign in the store had said the upstairs cafe would reopen at 8am on Wednesday September 23.

The company said last week that it would be reopening its 280 in-store cafes by the end of September.

But today it said: "We are temporarily pausing the phased reopening of some of our cafes while we review the latest government guidance.

The cafe is upstairs at the Scarborough branch of Sainsbury's

"We will keep our colleagues and customers updated while keeping safety our highest priority. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
