Rachel Akrill, who runs The Green Room of Bar Street with her husband and chef Phil, said: “The move has meant we have been able to create what we wanted here.

“We were having to turn people away from our old premises because it was smaller.”

The couple opened The Green Room Brasserie two years ago in a bid to spend more time together and with their three sons - 15-year-old Louie, eight-year-old Oscar and five-year-old Albie.

As a chef, Phil was working nights while Rachel worked during the day in customer services.

The restaurant proved a hit and they built up a loyal following.

Expanding has been a gamble, Rachel said, especially after the tough times this year has seen for the hospitality industry, but they are hopeful it will pay off.

“Most of the people who were coming before have come with us and have said it's brilliant,” she said.

“We’re almost fully booked for December.”

The couple used last month’s national lockdown to help them prepare for opening their new premises.

And the restaurant provided a delivery service to customers - ‘The Green Room At Home’ - while it could not open.

Phil and Rachel have big plans for their new premises, including charity nights when restrictions allow which will see front of house staff swapping roles with the kitchen team.
