Thursday Flashback: North Bay Pier

editorial image

Lying in ruins is North Bay PIer after the violent storm of January 1905 swept it away.

The North Bay Pier Company spent £10,000 redecking the walkway, installing electric lights, and building a row of shops at the landward entrance and a pavilion at the seaward end.

During the 1890s the pier enjoyed something of revival and might survived longer had it been constructed to withstand the violence of the North Sea.
