Woodend, The Crescent, Scarborough, Thursday September 7 and Friday September 8 at 7.30pm
Scarborough Actors’ Society presents Payback, a play by local award-winning playwright Neil Arnott. The play, which premiered at Cober Hill in April this year, is being directed by Damon Hotchin and will this time be presented in ‘the round.
Payback’ is a dark thriller set in an office of the newly-built tallest building in London.
Property developer Jacob Bright has gathered together his business allies to thank them for their support, but it quickly becomes clear that their long-buried secrets are about to rip their lives apart.
One by one their carefully honed facades crumble until their true characters are revealed. This is Neil’s first full-length play. His play Like Clockwork won the ScriptYorkshire Script Factor competition this year. It is a comedy set around a botched bank robbery by three hapless petty criminals. It will be one of three plays performed at a rehearsed reading by Springboard Scriptwriters at Woodend on Saturday September 15 from 6.30pm. The other two plays are I Don’t Want to go to School Today by Colin Scales and Mermaids of the North Sea by Jo Reed Turner.
