10k run serves as a sporting reminder

I write to congratulate all those involved in the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k event in Scarborough on Sunday, in particular Scarborough Athletic Club, who staged this tremendous spectacle.

The club is a voluntary organisation and deserves recognition for the hard work and commitment that went in to putting on an excellent event.

It was a credit to them and to Scarborough.

Aside from bringing people together for a great sporting occasion, it also brought much-needed business into the town at a quieter time of year.

The run served to highlight what an excellent setting Scarborough creates for sporting events of this type. It was also a reminder of the acute need for Scarborough to improve the sporting facilities it has on offer.

In this Olympic year, Sunday’s fabulous event reminded us that here in Scarborough, like everywhere else, there is a great desire to take part in sport.

We must all keep up the pressure to ensure that plans for improved sports facilities in the town do actually come to fruition.
