ONE of Scarborough’s busiest roads was closed for an hour due to a four car pile up.

Emergency services were called to A165 Osgodby bypass at 5.27pm yesterday to reports of a collision.

Police, fire crews with three engines, and two ambulances all attended the scene.

On arrival they found a pile- up on the Scarborough approach to the Filey Road Park and Ride roundabout.

A black Daihatsu, a blue Freelander, a brown Renault Megane, and a silver Mercedes were involved in the incident.

Police described the incident as a “rear end shunt” and closed the road immediately from the Wheatcroft roundabout, with traffic diverted along the old Filey Road.

The driver of the Daihatsu, and the driver and two passengers from the Mercedes were all taken to Scarborough Hospital via ambulance with suspected whiplash.

The other drivers were uninjured.

Once the damaged vehicles had been removed, and the road cleared of debris, Police reopened the road at 6.30pm.
