MODELS of beach huts by a host of international designers will be on show in Scarborough as part of a special exhibition.
The event, titled Bathing Beauties, will take place at Scarborough Art Gallery from March 13 to May 9.
It promises to be “an innovative and engaging look at the architecture of beach hut design”.
The idea evolved from a touring exhibition which inspired 240 architects, artists and designers from 15 countries to compete for commissions to build their 21st century designs on the Lincolnshire coast.
The best 100 models will be on show as part of the exhibition.
Art gallery marketing manager Georgette Donoghue said: “It will be great - we can’t wait to see all the models.
“There are some really good designs, all of which are 1:15 scale.”
Also on display will be a selection of vintage railway posters and displays of contemporary photographs depicting life in Scarborough’s beach huts.
Mrs Donoghue added: “There are photographs by Graham Shackleton and some of the chalet owners also got involved by taking diary photos.
“This was great as it involved the local community and personalised the project.”
The exhibition will also feature a collection of historic swimwear and local design students will be encouraged to contribute their own designs for swimwear of the future.
