In the latest move to try to bring the once-flourishing school up to scratch, North Yorkshire County Council has announced that Filey School will be run by York’s Ebor Academy Trust.

The trust could take over as early as June 1.

Once the trust takes over at the helm, it will mean the school as it is known now will be forced to close.

It will immediately reopen as a new school, possibly with a new name as part of a complete overhaul.

The dramatic action comes after the school was placed in special measures following a damning Ofsted report, which found the establishment was failing pupils in a number of key categories.

Despite what are bound to be huge changes at her school, current headteacher Dr Sue Morgan has welcomed the
intervention.

“Staff and governors are looking forward to the support and accelerated progress that they can receive through this school-to-school collaboration,” she said through a council statement.

The Ebor Academy Trust is based in Robert Wilkinson Primary, York, and works closely with schools across the 3-19 age range in York and
beyond.

North Yorkshire County Council claims the trust has established a track record in working successfully with schools prior to academy conversion.

The authority added that through a “strong collaborative approach” with local authorities, governing bodies and school leaders, they have quickly upped the performance of ailing schools.

On its website, the trust claims it “transforms new lives”.

County Councillor Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Schools, said: “ We want all children in North Yorkshire to be able to attend good or outstanding schools and we believe that this can be best achieved through strong partnerships.”
