Scarborough has been called the “perfect” location for three-part TV thriller Remember Me, which concluded on Sunday.
Actress Jodie Comer, who plays care worker Hannah Ward, told The Scarborough News that she loved filming in the town, but that it wasn’t her first visit.
She explained: “When I was about 16 I was in a play called The Place of Everything at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
“I loved it. It was my first theatre play as well as my first time away from home and I loved being down at the beach.
“It was very different to Liverpool, where I’m from. It was a lot quieter! But it was great when I heard I’d be coming back.”
The drama, written by Gwyneth Hughes, has been sending shivers down the nation’s spine with its twists and turns.
Starring Michael Palin, it follows the story of ghostly goings-on connected to an old photograph and tragic past events. Jodie said she was delighted to have the chance to work with such a TV legend and enjoyed breaking the news to her dad, who is a huge Monty Python fan.
She said: “Michael is such a lovely, charming guy. He brings a smile to your face. He made me feel so at ease.
“He was the perfect person to play Tom because he was a serious character, but with a youthful side to him.” The shoot took place mainly in Huddersfield, but with a week in Scarborough, which Jodie enjoyed immensely.
She said: “We could look out to sea from the hotel and were getting up early, so we could see the sun coming up.
“The shoot started in mid-January and went on til the first week in March – so it was freezing!
“But the location was perfect. As soon as I read the script and could see where it was going to be located, it fitted so well.”
Jodie said she doesn’t normally like watching herself back on TV, but said she had waited all year for Remember Me to be screened. She laughed: “I knew where the jumps were coming, but I still jumped when I watched it back with my family!”
Jodie has just finished filming an adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover for BBC1, which will be screened in the spring.
