Admirable location for the fisherman

RE Finlay to be moved near golf kiosk.

I was delighted to read in the Scarborough News, that Filey Council had backed plans to move Ray Lonsdale’s sculpture to a new site.

It’s a pity he had to be moved from his original temporary site near the cafe on Coble Landing. He looked quite impressive there, but Ray along with myself and Michael, had looked forward to viewing him on a more open site away from buildings. He’s a giant, and needs space to do justice to his creator.

Filey Council very kindly conducted a viewing of possible sites; and both Ray and myself felt it too good to be true if the ‘fountain’ site was approved. It was explained that the present fountain proved very costly to maintain.

However, the second option near the golf kiosk should prove admirable.

I must confess I would have been saddened to lose such an attractive fountain.

The fact that it would have cost the figure of £9,500 to move the sculpture to the compass fountain, would certainly have been a waste of money. I’m sure Finlay will look grand near Filey’s golf kiosk.

We very much look forward to seeing Finlay installed in his permanent location next March, and thank the Filey Council most sincerely for their kind consideration.
